Lauren Curl (yr2) has been awarded an a-n Professional Development travel bursary for her upcoming trip to La Ceiba Gráfica in Mexico (a printmaking studio internationally renowned for research into sustainable and environmentally-friendly techniques and materials). During the summer vacation Lauren will spend time investigating environmental responsibilities as a professional visual artist using screenprinting techniques, specifically looking at sustainable sourcing and the ecological impact of current materials and studio models both in the UK and in Mexico.
Lauren will take a course in non-industrial processing of natural pigments for screenprinting with experts in the UK; travel to Mexico to research indigenous natural pigment histories, visit specialist collections and collaborate with artist Margarita De La Peña; and develop specialist techniques in screenprinting with natural pigments through a focused residency. Lauren will present the findings of her research through a demo workshop open day here in September. Well done Lauren!
