A selection panel will review the submissions and make its decision solely on the information provided. All applicants will be informed of the result by Mon 19th May 2014.
This exciting new opportunity will offer a valuable support structure for emerging artists, bring critically engaging artwork to the local community as well as promoting local history. There will be opportunities to learn new skills and enrich theoretical knowledge.
The residency will run from June 12th until the end of August, with the possibility of extending the residency after this period. Artists will be expected to work a minimum of ten hours per week in the space between the hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday – Friday.
Studio space for resident artist is free although artists will need to contribute toward utilities. In exchange for rent-free temporary occupancy of the property the resident artists will take on the role of caretaker to the site. A key aspect of Unit 10 is for the resident artists to engage with the local community. During the residency we will host two Open Studio days, where the local community will be invited to see the work in progress. This will be a great opportunity for the artists to share their work with a broader audience and interact with neighbours, friends, and other artists. In September 2014 there will be an exhibition of the work created on site.
Other Opportunities Available
Unit 10 will also be available as a gallery and event space for a minimal cost. We will be running a number of workshops in the space over the course of the summer and we are inviting all creatives to submit a proposal of interest to get involved with Unit 10 either by leading a workshop, having an exhibition, running an art event, volunteering or anyway you can.
